What Could Happen if You Don’t Speak Out About Energy Theft?
If you suspect energy theft, but don’t tell us about it, it could lead to damage to property, injury, or even in the worst cases, death.
1. Shocks and Severe Burns
Messing with the wiring on an electricity meter is a big risk, with the potential to make appliances ‘live to the touch,’ risking shocks and severe burns.
If you experience electric shocks from multiple appliances in your home, or at work, then there is a chance that the meter in the building has been tampered with.
You may also experience electric shocks in the shower or when touching taps.
In some cases, shocks and severe burns from appliances can be fatal. Read more about the tragic loss of Harvey Tyrrell, who was sadly electrocuted at a pub where the meter had been tampered with, here.
2. Electrical Fires
Wires with loose connections can get so hot that they start fires. This puts innocent lives at risk, as well as destroying the property, endangering everyone in the building and in close proximity of the area.
3. Lethal Gas Leaks and House Fires
Interfering with something as explosive and inflammable as your gas supply is a very big risk. Leaking gas is highly flammable and can be easily ignited – all it takes is the flick of a light switch to cause an explosive fireball, risking serious injuries and potential fatalities.
If you suspect energy theft, report it. You could help prevent severe injuries or fatalities.
